Editorial policy

Principles

• Educate, never diagnose. Pages explain what a symptom, condition, test or medicine is and how it connects to the body. They do not tell a reader what is wrong with them or what to take. Symptom pages end with when to seek care, not with a diagnosis.
• One entity, one page. Each medical entity has a single canonical page. Synonyms, abbreviations and brand names resolve to it rather than becoming duplicate pages.
• Sourced claims. Every substantive factual claim is traceable to the sources listed at the foot of the page. We do not invent citations and we do not cite a source we have not read.
• Plain language first. Technical terms are used because medicine uses them, but each is linked to the terminology dictionary and explained in context.
• Consistency. Every page of a type follows the same template, so a reader always knows where to find the anatomy, the causes, the tests, the treatment and the sources.

How a page is made

1. An entity is added to the content model with its relationships: organs, systems, structures, related conditions, tests, procedures, medicines and terms.
2. The text is written to the template for its type from the chosen sources.
3. The build validates every relationship and reference: an unknown link, a missing source or a malformed reference stops publication.
4. A quality gate checks the page has a lead paragraph, real body content, at least one source and relationships to the rest of the graph. Pages that fail are published noindex until complete.
5. The page is released in the next numbered version and recorded in the changelog.

Updates

Each page shows the date its content last changed substantially. Dates are not refreshed for cosmetic edits. Medication and guideline-dependent pages are the first to be rechecked when the cited guidance changes.

Independence and funding

Anatomy Nexus carries no advertising and no sponsored content, and takes no payment from manufacturers, providers or publishers. Medicines are described by generic name.
