Drug Interaction Checker
Check medicines for known interactions and understand what they may mean, how serious they may be, and what monitoring or professional advice may be relevant.
Interaction information is educational and does not replace advice from a doctor, pharmacist, or other qualified healthcare professional.
Add your medications
Search by generic name, brand name, or active ingredient. Add at least two medications to begin.
Check two or more medications
Add the medicines you want to compare. We’ll review each medication pair for known interactions in our available clinical data.

Examples are pairs with a sourced record in the current dataset.
How the checker works
- Names become ingredients. A brand name maps to its generic medicine; a combination product (for example co-codamol) is split into each active ingredient; a named substance without a page on this site is matched by name.
- Every pair is checked. For the medicines you add, every unique pair is compared against the sourced interaction records: medicine–medicine records, records written for a whole drug class (applied only to its members, as the source states), and duplicate ingredients or therapeutic duplication.
- Severity comes from the source. Each record carries the state its cited document's wording supports (contraindicated, avoid, specialist supervision, monitor or adjust, documented); the checker maps those states onto its display tiers and never grades an interaction from its own reading. Nothing is labelled minor by inference.
- Results are shown highest severity first, then the pairs with no known interaction in the available data, the related anatomy, tests and classes, and every source used.
About our interaction data
- Source
- BNF (NICE), NHS, MedlinePlus (NIH), NICE, UK Government, paraphrased into records that each cite the document and section they came from
- Coverage
- 72 interaction records · 39 medicines with pages · 14 brand and combination products · 73 named substances · 27 drug classes
- Last updated
- Review status
- Facts checked against the cited sources; not yet clinically reviewed
The checker can detect medicine-to-medicine interactions recorded in the official information of the medicines represented on this site, duplicate active ingredients across brands and combination products, and therapeutic duplication within a drug class where official guidance advises against the combination. It cannot detect interactions that are not in the dataset, interactions with food, alcohol, supplements, diseases, pregnancy, allergies or laboratory tests, or the effect of a particular dose, route, age or kidney and liver function. Interaction databases differ from one another; a pair that is not found here may still interact.
