The integument: skin and hair.
Overview
The skin is the body's largest organ, about two square metres of barrier against infection, injury and water loss. Its outer epidermis constantly renews; the dermis beneath carries vessels, nerves, glands and hair follicles. In the atlas the skin is a single surface shown as a translucent overlay so the structures beneath stay visible; hair of the head, eyebrows and pubic hair are separate pieces.
